Nawar Alhusari’s “The First 134 Days” is an autopsy of sorts. A Syrian man living in Leipzig goes back to Damascus, three months after his grandfather passes. There awaits a peculiar book, handmade by his late grandfather: newspaper clippings which archive the first days of the Syrian Uprising. What was he trying to rescue, or bury, by composing with the fragments of this book?
This video is part of a long artistic research project on the use of artistic practices as a tool for questioning, critiquing, and representing under the authority of dominant political and social discourses.
في «الأيام ١٣٤ الأولى»، يعود نوّارالحصري المقيم في مدينة لايبزيغ الألمانية الى دمشق بعد وفاة جدّه بثلاثة أشهر.هناك كتاب غريب ينتظره، كان جدّه الراحل قد صنعه يدويًا: قصاصات من الصحف توثق الأيام الأولى للانتفاضة السورية. ما الذي كان يحاول إنقاذه، أو دفنه، عندما ألّف هذا الكتاب من شظايا الذاكرة؟
هذا الفيديو هو جزء من بحث فني طويل حول توظيف الممارسات الفنية كأداة للمساءلة والنقد والتمثيل تحت سلطة الخطابات السياسية والاجتماعية المهيمنة.
تنشر مجلة فَمْ هذا الحوار ضمن سلسلة «الكتابة عبر الأجيال» التي تشمل فعاليات وحوارات ونصوص لكاتبات وباحثات ابتكرن أساليب سردية لاستعادة الذاكرة الجماعية والوقوف على ما نُبذ من إرث الماضي، فاجترحن مقاربات جديدة في فن التنقيب والسرد. انطلاقاً من أعمالهنّ الروائية والبحثية وسيرهنّ الذاتية، نسعى للإضاءة على أطوار من الكتابة تسائل صيغ السرد المهيمنة، فتعيد تخيّل الماضي. السلسة من تنظيم سارة مراد وريما رنتيسي وبرعاية كليّة الآداب والعلوم في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت.

Inspired by their archival scholarship and work in memoir, biography, and fiction, it showcases modes of writing minor histories that reimagine the past and challenge dominant narratives. The series is curated by Sara Mourad and Rima Rantisi and supported by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the American University of Beirut.
Nuwar Alhusari is a Syrian visual artist, researcher, and lecturer, and holds an MFA in Graphics from Damascus University. His ongoing practice-based research explores the role of language, memory, and positionality as instruments of expression within structural social and political discourses. His recent teaching experiences experiment with bodies of artistic and pedagogical methods and political tensions as triggers for artistic practice, production, and critique. He is currently a PhD candidate at Bauhaus University Weimar in Germany

نوّار الحُصَريفنان بصري سوري، وباحث، ومحاضر، يحمل درجة الماجستير في الفنون الجميلة (الغرافيك) من جامعة دمشق. يستكشف بحثه الحالي القائم على الممارسة دور اللغة والذاكرة والموقعية كأدوات للتعبير في بنية الخطابات الاجتماعية والسياسية. وتختبر خبراته التدريسية الأخيرة مناهج فنية وتربوية والتوترات السياسية بوصفها محفزات للممارسة الفنية والإنتاج والنقد. وهو حالياً مرشّح لنيل درجة الدكتوراه في جامعة باوهاوس فايمار في ألمانيا.
